5 Self-Care Tips for Women

Self-care is essential in your life as a woman. According to Elizabeth Scott, MS of Verywell Mind in her article The Importance of Self-Care for Health and Stress Management, “We are more resilient and more able to handle life’s stress when we are feeling our best both physically and emotionally.”

As we celebrate the International Women’s Month this March, here are 5 tips to help you take care of yourself.

Tip #1: It’s okay to ask for help

Women feel that they’re not good enough or capable to do the tasks when they ask for help, as explained by John Berardi, Ph.D. of Precision Nutrition in their article Special for women: Is taking care of yourself really that selfish?  

Truth is, you don’t always have to take matters in your own hands alone. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Acknowledging that you need one only improves personal development and your relationship with others.

Tip #2: Stop comparing yourself with others

It’s hard not to compare yourself with others especially when you’re always on social media. So the solution? Take a breather from it!

“Decreasing your time on social media will give you free time to focus on the qualities you bring to the table, not someone else. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not who someone else is today,” according to Lauren Zoeller as cited in an article 14 Tips for Creating a Self-Care Routine to Nourish Your Body and Soul by Katherine Martinelli.

Tip #3: Regular exercise is a must

Not only will you decrease your risk of having heart disease, obesity, and other chronic conditions, exercising will also boost your mental health. It will also reduce the risk of depression and anxiety, as explained by A Healthier Michigan in their article Six Self-Care Tips for Women.

If you can’t go to the gym, try playing sports or other physical activities that works for you.

Tip #4: Learn to say “no”

Stop saying “yes” to everything and learn to say “no.” Sheryl Kraft of Healthy Women shared in her article Self-Care Tips That Actually Work that you should give yourself time to think before making a decision. Weigh in your needs and wants.

Pray and be wise. Invest your time, talent, and treasure to what really matters most.

Tip #5: Create a supportive environment

Build a surrounding that inspires and motivates you.

Start clearing the clutter of the places or relationships that drain you, says Centerstone in their article Six Self-Care Strategies for Women. This will empower you to effectively manage your multiple roles as a woman.

Most importantly, take care of yourself by taking a rest. The best place to refuel and recharge is in the presence of God.  Jeremiah 31:25 The Voice says, “I will satisfy those who are weary, and I will refresh every soul in the grips of sorrow.”
