How to Know if You have Found The One? | Beyond Small Talk

You are dating this smart, mature, funny, utterly kindand godly person. One look at this incredible human and you think, what an ultimate dreamboat!

Deep in your heart, you know that you have found the love of your life. Both of you have already planned it out – from the marriage, your dream homedown to the number of kids you would have and the place where you would spend your retirement years.

You are head over heels in love, but you are not quite sure if this person is the one that God has for you.

How do you know if you have found The One?

Beyond Small Talk is here to help you!

Couple and Beyond Small Talk hosts Jan and Jamey Manual suggest a “checklist” to help you confirm if you are with the person that you should marry:

1. The One will be confirmed by God through His Word

Do you want to know what the will of God is? Then start where the will of God is – the Holy Bible.

As you read His Word, you will have a deeper understanding about the type of person that God is asking all His children to marry. Do you have the same beliefs and values? Are you equally yoked? Pray about it and ask for God‘s leading in your life.

“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14 ESV)

 2. The One will be confirmed through godly people

Because God knows you, loves you, and wants the best for you, He will surround you with godly people who know you, love you, and want the best for you.

That impression in your heart will transition to the people around you. You will be surprised by how your story would bless other people, your parents, and your pastor. They rejoice with you. It’s not a you and me against the world type of relationship,” Jamey shared.

These godly counsels will help you bear your burdens (Galatians 6:2), will correct you out of love (Galatians 6:1), and give wise advice because they want you to succeed.

“Where there is no guidance the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory.” (Proverbs 11:14)

3. The One will be confirmed through circumstances

God is the greatest matchmaker. That said, He will and can orchestrate anything according to His will.

So if God is leading you to marry somebody, certain circumstances in your relationship are going to be present. For instance, that person will want to marry you, and there are obvious signs that the relationship is heading toward marriage.

Even though the circumstances and situation look impossible for you to end up together, if that person is the one that God has chosen for you, He will move mountains to bring you two together.

 4. The One will be confirmed if there is unmistakable peace

God can speak to you about the things He wants you to do or not do with the help of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26).

When your Heavenly Father wants you to be one with a specific person, there is an unmistakable peace in your heart. As Jan and Jayme put it, you don’t have to fight for the relationship because it is the kind of love story that you don’t need to defend.

You just know that it is right, because the Holy Spirit helps you discern that it is a God-ordained love story.

 5. The One is someone you purely desire

Maybe you have ticked all the boxes above, but you feel that something isn’t quite right. Deep down in your heart, you do not have the 100% desire to spend the rest of your life with this person.

Although desire takes the last place in this “checklist,” it is not less important than everything else mentioned above. And while true love doesn’t just look on the surface, attraction is a crucial factor when it comes to discerning if you want to settle down with someone forever.

Joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). God will give you that pure, godly desire to be with someone because He wants to give you an everlasting joy – especially in your married life.
