Will you ‘Weave’ Hope for the pandemic-stricken Dumagats?

For some Filipinos, the imposed quarantines during the pandemic could mean more time to rest and an opportunity to spend quality moments with their families.

But for indigenous peoples like Jocelyn dela Rosathe quarantines mean much more than that. It means hunger, loss of livelihood, and everyday worry of how she can provide for all the needs of her 6 children.

Jocelyn’s family is a member of the Dumagat tribe residing in the mountains of Tanay, Rizal. She used to weave sawali (bamboo strips) to support her loved onesEvery day, she would endure the long walks down the mountains to sell her hand-woven products for a living.

But these days, no matter how many sawali she weaves, it is not enough for their basic needs. The lockdowns stalled her livelihood and totally reduced her customers – leaving her distressed about how she can put food on their table in the coming days.

“Our situation made me anxious. But if I remain like this, I cannot take care of my children’s needs. So, I try my best to still weave and sell sawali to support them,” Jocelyn shared.

That is why it is a huge relief for Jocelyn when the Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, visited their community in Tanay, Rizal.

In partnership with the Philippine Army and DLL SAGAD Off-Roaders, Operation Blessing was able to distribute much-needed relief items to our indigenous kababayans.

Jocelyn and other Dumagats received food bags full of rice, canned goods, and more food items that would help them get by for a week. To help ensure that they would be safe from COVID-19, they were also given hygiene kits.

Most importantly, they got the chance to be prayed for and hear the Good News and words of encouragement from the team.

“Because of your help, my children will have something to eat. Thank you so much!” Jocelyn said, with a smile on her face.

Through your unwavering support, we can continue to go far and wide and provide relief to our most vulnerable kababayans like the Dumagats. Your giving weaves hope to families who are severely affected by the current pandemic.

Help us weave hope for more and more pandemic-stricken families!
