Parenting Amid a Pandemic: How can we Help Parents During this Tough Time?

For many years now, being a pedicab driver has been Nestor Francisco’s way of providing for his family.

Tirelessly pedaling his old pedicab, the 55-year-old father would bear the scorching heat of the sun every day as he makes his way through the streets of their barangay in Las Piñas.

It is their only means of livelihoodExhausting as it is, Nestor endures it – and would continue to endure anything for his loved ones.

However, his struggles doubled when COVID-19 started to ravage the country. Due to the imposed quarantine, their pedicab trips were drastically affected and limited, which resulted to their lack of income.

“It is difficult for us now. We cannot earn money to provide for our families because of the Coronavirus. It is really difficult,” Nestor lamented.

Apart from the financial crisis they go through, Nestor also worries for the health and safety of his household. It burdens him that he cannot buy hygiene items that can help protect their family against the virus. They need to put food on the table and survive the day.

“We can’t afford soaps and alcohols. We are scared that we could get infected by the virus,” the worried father shared.

Nestor is one of the many parents who experience tremendous stress, fear, and worry during this pandemic. To parents who are financially challenged even before COVID-19 hit the country, it is harder than ever to provide for and take care of their families. Moreover, the thought of what might happen in the days to come could be utterly overwhelming.

This Global Day of Parents, heres how you can appreciate and honor the parents like Nestor, and help alleviate their struggles during these trying times:

Extend help

Extending actual help is one way of reaching out to Filipino parents.

More than just giving reliefit also restores their dignity and hope. It comforts them that they are not alone in their battlesand that God sends people who could bless and help them get through the hard times.

You can be their blessing! You can extend help to parents through the Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines – CBN Asia’s humanitarian armEver since the COVID-19 outbreak, Operation Blessing and its donors have been active in providing food packs and hygiene kits to underprivileged parents and their children.

Thousands of families have already received aid, and your help can help us help more! You can partner with the Operation Blessing by sending in your donations through www.obphil.com/home/be-a-partner/.

Pray for Parents

Apart from extending help, why not offer a prayer for parents, too? There is an apparent need to pray for frontliners and COVID-19 patients, but the current situation also takes heavy toll on parents.

Ask God to encourage and strengthen all the mothers and fathers who are overwhelmed right now – that they may be granted financial provision, protection, and peace. Pray that God would enable parents to take care of others when they themselves may be dealing with personal issues too.

Lift in prayers every parent who seeks help and hope, that Jesus will become like a soothing balm that calms their worried hearts.

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. (1 Timothy 2:1 NLT)

May God give you the heart to extend help and pray for all selfless parents not just today, but every single day.

Are you a parent who needs prayers and encouragement right now? You may call the CBN Asia Prayer Center at 8737-0700 and we would love to stand with you in prayers.
