Are you overwhelmed with pressure in giving gifts this Christmas?

According to Ben Vines’ article on Needle, 3 out of 4 consumers are plagued with holiday gift giving stress. This shows that giving gifts has become a headache for many, when in fact, it shouldn’t be. Giving gifts can also be extra overwhelming especially when you’re strapped for cash. It adds up to the anxiety and pressure brought by the Christmas rush.

To help solve that, here are three non-expensive, less-taxing, yet meaningful ways to bless your families and friends this wonderful season:

  1. The Gift of Time

Christmas is more than just giving of material gifts. This season, let us revisit the greatest gift giver there is: Jesus Christ.

While most people are visited by loved ones during this merry season, there are some who are visited by loneliness and depression. Why not invite them over coffee, talk about life, and share the value of Christmas? Share stories over Christmas dinner. Pray intentionally for and with them.

Time and prayers, although intangible, can be some of the most touching and moving gifts you can give to others.

  1. The Gift of Service

More than the wrappers, ribbons, and the gift itself, you can point the meaning of Christmas back to Jesus by offering an act of service to your families and friends. It could be as simple as offering a free ride, babysitting their children, or cooking with them.

As 1 Thessalonians 2:8 said, “Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.”

  1. The Gift of Compassion

This is the real reason for the season – a compassionate God offered Himself for us and save us. Extending this kind of compassionate act to others is one wonderful gift we can give this Christmas.

Is there a community event you can support? Go for it. Are they organizing a Christmas party for underprivileged children? Volunteer to help!

Indeed, the Christmas season in the Philippines is beyond ordinary. One of the things that make it more special is sharing your blessings to others. Giving your time, service, and compassion will never get outdated. With the right motives, spending less could mean giving more.
