How you Impacted People’s Lives through your Generous Giving

When super typhoon Yolanda wreaked havoc in Western Samar, Dave Galangue and his aunt Metelyn lost their home. They were transferred to a resettlement site, a community where they had to follow a certain time just to fetch water.

Due to water shortage, there were times when they had to collect water from an open well near their house.

Aunt Metelyn, on the other hand, sews uniforms to provide for their families. She took care of Dave when his father died and his mother left him. When Aunt Metelyn got sick and was hospitalized for weeks, Dave had to provide for himself. He would fetch water for his neighbors in exchange for food.

“Sometimes I can’t go to school, because I would just arrive in our classroom with an empty stomach and I can’t focus on my studies,” shared Dave.

Earning 30 pesos a day isn’t enough to cover Dave’s daily needs. Apart from that, carrying his neighbors’ heavy water jugs puts him at risk. He recalled the incident when he slipped near the open well and injured himself.

Dave is just one of the many people in their community who wish to have a source of potable water.

So, when the Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines (OB), CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, learned about their community’s condition, they built a deep well to address the need.

“Fetching water from a deep well is safer, I don’t slip anymore. The water is not dirty even when it rains. It’s safe to drink,” Dave said.

To support Dave in turning his dreams into a reality, he was chosen as one of the beneficiaries of Operation Blessing’s Back-to-School program. With a complete set of school supplies and uniforms, Dave can’t contain his delight.

“On my first day at school, I was very excited and extremely happy! I want to reach my dream of becoming a Computer Engineer,” Dave happily uttered.

Lastly, Dave received a pedicab from the Operation Blessing to help provide for his financial needs.

“I spend my earnings on food and school projects. Thank you very much, Operation Blessing! If it weren’t for you, my life would have not changed,” a smiling Dave ended.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)
