3 Steps to Breaking Free from Sin – Beyond Small Talk

Sins, no matter how big or small, keep a man away from God.

Are you tired of tolerating and committing the same sins over and over again? Do you want to break free from sins, but don’t know where to start?

Here are 3 practical steps toward your path to freedom, discussed by Beyond Small Talk hosts Peter Kairuz, Erick Totañez, and Jan Manual.

  1. Confess your sin.

Some people remain shackled by sins because they refuse to acknowledge the sin and its impact on their lives. Host Erick Totañes emphasized that the first step to breaking free from sin is admitting that you have sinned.

Not everyone finds it easy to be vulnerable, but the Bible assures that as you come open and honest to God, He is willing to purify you.

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8-9 NIV)

  1. Keep yourself away from temptation

What tempts you?

After acknowledging the habit or pattern of sin and confessing it to Jesus, claim that He has already forgiven you like how a merciful father forgives His child. To keep that healthy relationship with your Heavenly Father, you must keep an eye on when, who, and what triggers you to sin – and actively turn away from it.

“Remember, the enemy has all our records, he knows what temptation he used on us that works and what temptation does not work. He will wait for you till you’re weak, till you’re tired, till you’re vulnerable then that’s when he attacks. He won’t stop trying. He wants to destroy your testimony,” warns Peter Kairuz.

Be vigilant. Remove yourself from temptation triggers.

  1. Let God change you.

Do you believe that the Word of God is so powerful that it can set you free from any sin or bondage?

He is so compassionate that even though He knows you would sin, He sent an “advocate” to help you get out of your wrongs, “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” (1 John 2:1)

Let Him transform you by meditating on His Word and soaking yourself in prayers.

People from all walks of life could struggle with sin, but the grace of God will enable you to break free from it. Trust His power rather than your own.
