The Roles of a Husband in Marriage – Beyond Small Talk

Are you fulfilling your role as a husband?

While women are called to submit, husbands have greater responsibility.

God commands in Ephesians 5:25-27 NIV, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”

Jesus demonstrated unconditional love and devout commitment to His people (His Church) and so should you.

Here are 3 important roles that you need to take as the head of the household.

  1. The Priest of the Home

An unshakeable marriage is built on a strong foundation of prayer.

As men, it is your responsibility to always pray for your wife and draw your whole family closer to God. You should be the one who initiates prayer time with your family.

  1. The Prophet of the Home

A prophet is the one who delivers, speaks, and proclaims the message of God. They are His ambassadors here on earth.

Likewise, you as a husband should bring the Word of God to their wives and teach it to their children.

  1. The King of the Household

As a husband, the role of providing, protecting, and defending your family rests upon your shoulders.

According to Greg Morse of Desiring God in his article entitled ‘Happy Wife, Happy Life’: And Other Misleading Advice to Young Husbands, “Christ created men to initiate and bear responsibility. His glory is to sacrifice. His mission is to lead his wife and his family from the front, on his knees.”
