How To Be A Good Father – Beyond Small Talk

Fathers, do not minimize your role in your children’s growth.

Did you know that according to an article entitled The Science of Dad and the ‘Father Effect’ by Joshua A. Krisch of Fatherly, kids who grow up with strong fatherly presence have a low percentage of dropping out of school and be apt to avoid high-risk behaviors into adulthood?

In fact, “They’re more likely to have high-paying jobs and healthy, stable relationships when they grow up. They also tend to have higher IQ test scores by the age of 3 and endure fewer psychological problems throughout their lives when fatherhood is taken seriously,” he added.

Remember that you are the leader whom your children follow, you set rules and boundaries at home, and affirm the womanhood of your daughters and the manhood of your sons.

But if you’ve had a rough start raising your children, Beyond Small Talk is here to help!

Scroll down to see some ways on how to become a better father.

Show them your affection through words.

How do you speak to your children?

When was the last time you expressed how much you love and value them?

As parents, you need to pay more attention more on how you say things instead of shoving what you want them to do down their throats.

Proverbs 18:21 NIV says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Your role is not just to provide for their physical needs but also to offer life-building words that assure and secure your growing children.

Carve out time to be with them.

How’s your time with your family?

While it is easy to be swayed by the demands of life, remember that no one can replace you in your children’s lives.

So, be intentional and set aside time solely for your family. It shows that they are your priority above others. Give your undivided attention and treasure every precious moment.
