Operation Blessing 3-Day Medical Mission – Sweet Relief for Unreached Barangays in Negros Occidental

NEGROS OCC – Despite the abundance of sweet produce, some of the locals in the far-flung communities still suffer in the bitterness of poverty.

Because of the poor living condition, accessing health services for them has been just a dream, especially for the indigenous peoples (IPs) living in the farthest barangays.

Committed to help the poorest of the poor, Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, Inc. (OB) – CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, together with medical volunteers and troops of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) bravely travelled the remote communities of Escalante, Toboso, and Calatrava, Negros Occidental for a 3-day medical mission last August 27- 29.

“In behalf of the community, thank you for reaching out to us. Going to the nearest hospital becomes challenging for the residents of Toboso especially during rainy season.” said, Richard M. Jaojoco, mayor of the Municipality of Toboso.

OB provided medical and dental check up with free medicines and eye screening for cataract and visual acuity and gave free reading glasses. And with the help of military volunteers, feeding program, free haircut, and free body massage were also offered.

Maricel Cabrera, 34, mother of two who is also 5 months pregnant, was delighted to be chosen as one of the beneficiaries of Medical Mission in Barangay Minapasuk, Calatrava.

“I was so happy to know that everything is okay for my baby. Last time, I lost my 3 babies.” she said. Upon checkup, Maricel was noted to have an elevated blood pressure which required her to be further assisted through an OB GYN consultation in the hospital.

Operation Blessing staff brought her to the nearest hospital in Calatrava and extended help by giving her medical assistance.

“The willingness to help really comes from within. I encourage other doctors to try helping other people and they will know how good it feels to help someone in need.” said Dr. Gino Ang, one of the faithful donors who also started volunteering 10 years ago.

Hello, I would just like to ask if you have any events or activities in General Santos City or anywhere near the mentioned city.

This is because I am willing to help in any way I can. I currently have a lot of free time and would like to use my time to volunteer/assist in any program I am qualified in.

    Thank you and God bless.
