Would you go the Extra Mile to Answer God’s Call?

Buddy Agunat would, like he always does.

Born near a cemetery, the childhood of Salvador “Buddy” Agunat revolved around it. He got involved in fraternity wars and riots as influenced by their chaotic environment. Despite their poor situation, he managed to enter college with hopes of giving a better life to his family.

Until one day, his life shifted when he met a Christian organization that introduced him to Jesus. The desire to serve God and share the gospel grew in his heart. He’s being called to fulfill the great commission.

Have you been in a situation where God calls you to do ‘something’ but ‘some things’ hold you back?

Buddy was torn too, so he asked God to equip and help him as he asks his family’s blessing. He realized that the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable (Romans 11:29). Buddy dropped everything and pursued God’s call as Mark 16:15 says, “Go ye to all the world, and preach the gospel to every nation.”

“Religion was important to me, I didn’t know that there’s this so called ‘relationship’ [with God]. The most important relationship above all. God’s Word really struck my heart,” said Buddy.

Carrying utmost obedience to his calling as a full-time minister, Buddy conducted missions in less-reached places in Luzon where he encountered a near-death experience in Mindanao when a rebel was about to shoot him. Miraculously, a Muslim saved him saying that he knows Buddy when in fact, they haven’t met yet.

That moment ignited his passion to reach the Muslim community. Buddy became an Asian Center for Missions-trained missionary, braved all challenges he encountered to selflessly reach out the people of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Dubai, UAE, Bangladesh and Nepal.

“Our breakfast would always be hotdog sandwich, and I’ll force myself to eat it slowly with lots of water. We needed to save money so we can give it to the poor and needy. To the overlooked and ignored, to the hungry and thirsty,” he recalled.

“Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14)

Buddy’s experiences show that God will never leave you when you accept and love the work He prepared for you to do. Doing all things with love, the senior Pastor of Jesus the Messiah Congregation is now a Missionary Trainer for Southeast Asia, a teacher of Asian and World History, and spearheaded The Great Commission Foundation Inc. to support missionaries they sent out to different parts of Southeast Asia. When God calls, how will you answer? God is waiting for you to echo a resounding “yes”, a complete surrender.
