The 700 Club Asia hosts Sonjia Calit-Kakilala and Erick Totañes flew to Palanog, Tacloban and visited the Community of Hope (COH) beneficiaries last April 25-26, the housing project of CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, the Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines (OB).

Aside from sitting down with the families and getting to know about their lives, the hosts prayed for them and helped distribute school supplies and Superbook merchandise to the kids.

When night fell, they shared hot meals with the community while watching the CBN Asia’s Holy Week Special Kublihan, featuring the life of their neighbor – the Macato family.

The heart-wrenching yet inspiring story showed how the Macatos braved typhoon Yolanda and other challenges in life, and how God was able to restore, unite their family.

Smiles and tears filled the night as the families recall how their lives were changed by the deadly typhoon, and how they found hope when they received free homes from OB. The Macato family can’t help but to become emotional as they watch their lives being portrayed on screen.

On the other hand, Crizalyn Macato expressed her joy and feels humbled to be used by God in ministering to others.

“We’re very happy, it’s overwhelming to see people watching [our family’s story]. They’re excited to know how God changed my life. Somehow, God used our story as an inspiration, so people would know Him, for them to remain strong despite struggles,” said Crizalyn in Filipino.

Separated from each other for a very long time, suffered a huge typhoon, lost a family member. Of all the hardships the Macato family endured, their experiences speak a message to their neighbors in COH that God can transform lives and restore whatever they have lost.

“No matter how heavy your troubles are, no matter how dark it is, always remember that the Lord will guide you. He will be your strength when you’re weak. So take heart!” shared Crizalyn.

The hosts concluded the night through praying and sharing the Word of God to the residents of COH. Erick, who is also a pastor, led the families as they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

“We don’t just give them homes, we give them hope – a tangible proof that there is really a possibility for new life, new beginning, and a new start with their families,” Erick ended.
