Having a Hard Time Submitting to Authorities? Ponder on these from Beyond Small Talk

Were you disappointed with the 2019 midterm election results?

Despite that, hating the people elected in government does not permit you rebel or break the law.

The Bible teaches in 1 Peter 2:13-15 ESV, “Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.”

So, how do you honor and submit to governing authorities you dislike?

Learn from Beyond Small Talk hosts Peter Kairuz, Jericho Arceo, and Paul Herrera.

Be a good citizen.

You are to be a responsible and smart Filipino citizen because that’s what you are called to do.

Follow the rules and regulations and submit to the authorities. As what Paul Herrera said, “Whether you like the leaders or not, you have to obey the law.”

Of course, you can still air out your grievances. No one is withholding you because that’s your right. But then, see to it that what comes out of your mouth will not be dishonoring to the leaders of the land and will give glory to God.

After all, Proverbs 18:21 ESV says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”

In the end, the leaders are accountable to God.

Be faithful in what you can do.

Instead of pinpointing and blaming, be diligent in fulfilling your role as a good citizen. Change starts in you.

The Philippines is not a hopeless country.

God promised in Deuteronomy 28:1-3 NIV “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.”
