Why is it Easy to Work and Sometimes Hard to Rest?

Why is it Easy to Work

What first comes in your mind when you think of the word “work?”

Do you consider your work exhausting?

Or rewarding?

Is your work something that you love to do or is it something that you’re forced to do?

Either way, you’ve probably come to a point where you feel so tired that you just want to stop — but somehow, you just can’t.

Is it possible that you’ve become so consumed with your daily mountain of work that you’ve forgotten life isn’t just about working and earning?

So, before you drown yourself in that pool of tasks, here are some Biblical truths about work that you need to keep in mind:

“So Jesus, since he was tired from the journey, sat right down beside the well.”– John 4:6 NET

God is not a slave-driver. Contrary to the workaholic culture the world has been feeding you, the Bible tells how God values rest. In John 4, Jesus stopped by the well to rest, after long hours of preaching and walking.

We’re not God.  We are humans with limited strength. We all get exhausted.

It is not God’s will for you to abuse your  body, for after all, your body is  the temple of His Holy Spirit.

Resting is not laziness.

Rest is when we quiet our tired bodies and souls, and allow God to refresh us through His power and Spirit.

If Jesus rested, why shouldn’t you? When was the last time you stopped from working and rested? When was the last time you sat right down at the feet of Jesus and drank from the Spring of Life?

“To every man whom God has given wealth, and possessions, he has also given him the ability to eat from them, to receive his reward and to find enjoyment in his toil;  these things are the gift of God.” – Ecclesiastes 5:19 NET

Don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s just right that you enjoy the fruits of your labor. Because you worked hard for it, you deserve to treat yourself once in a while.

The problem comes when you begin to enjoy before harvesting the fruit of your work. There are some people who like to splurge on expensive vacations and shopping sprees and they haven’t even saved enough to indulge in such activities.

Also,  remember that those who are lazy should not eat.  (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Those who will not toil have no right to enjoy.

So, don’t be afraid to have fun when you know you’ve worked enough and saved enough. After all, God did enjoy the fruits of His labor when He finished creating the world, right?
