Security in Eternal Life

foreverYou are probably familiar with the phrase, “Walang forever” (There is no forever). It is a common saying in the Philippines, but one Christians should not relate to. Because for Christians or those who believe in Jesus Christ, forever exists.

Once somebody receives Christ as their Savior, he or she starts a relationship with God that guarantees the security to eternal life, forever. In John 10:28-29 (NLT), Jesus says, I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and He is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.

Our salvation, our forever with God, is not from our works. It is from the love of God, from the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. There is nothing that can diminish the love of Christ for us. We are kept by the power and the love of God.

cross-of-christAt the same time, we should not think that just because we are saved, we can do anything that we want to. Let us aim to serve God and not live in sin any longer. Paul says in Romans 6:1-2 (NLT), “Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?

If you believe in God and love Him, you will aim to please Him. Philippians 2:12 (NLT) says, “Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.” So let us live for the Lord in response to the love He has first given us.

We are secure in eternal life with the Lord. He loves us and we belong to Him. That is a love that was promised to us, the only happily ever after.
