Search for the 1st Huwarang OFW Award Launched

They leave family and home to work abroad to provide a better future for their loved ones. They endure hardship, working in a foreign country, adapting a different culture, and experiencing discrimination by their employers, if not maltreatment. But despite all these, our OFW’s triumphed in the end, fulfilling their dreams for their families, maintaining strong family ties, if not making a significant contribution in their community.

It is this heroism of our OFW’s that CBN Asia, in partnership with I-REMIT and KAMPI recognize in launching the search for “Huwarang OFW Family 2014.” CBN Asia CEO and President Peter Kairuz, I-REMIT President Harris Jacildo and Luther Calderon, President of KAMPI, signed a Memorandum of Agreement that formally launched the search.

Cash and in-kind prizes, plus plaque will be given to the winners. The premiere award will be given to the “Huwarang OFW Family,” and two special awards will be given to an individual OFW and a missionary.

OFW Awards_standingIn signing the agreement, Cecildo said, “I-Remit is committed to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility, not just to earn money for the shareholders and the stockholders, and now being able to partner with CBN Asia, with the Huwarang OFW Family project, I think we are able to advance our mission even more. Also, we are now focusing on the family because we believe that the basic unit of society is the family. By being able to reach out to the families of the OFWs, then we hope that we are able to help in keeping the family intact and strengthen the very basic unit of the society.”

For his part, Calderon of KAMPI said, “This partnership with CBN Asia also highlights our advocacy of making working abroad a pleasant experience for our kababayans who are working hard for their families. Every day, we hear sad stories about OFWs suffering from abuse and unfortunate circumstances while they are away from their families. It is our mission to tell the good side of the story–that working abroad can also be a wonderful experience.”

Kairuz, on the other hand expressed his delight over the partnership. “We are very happy with this collaboration with I-REMIT and KAMPI. Almost every Filipino is associated with an OFW, whether it’s a family member, a relative or a friend. And so we want to highlight the good benefits of working abroad because that is something that many of our kababayans can relate to.”

I-Remit is the largest non-bank Filipino-owned remittance company and a global remittance service provider while Kabalikat ng Migranteng Pilipino, Inc. (KAMPI) is a non-stock, non-profit organization committed to uplift and educate the Filipino Migrant Worker in preparation to overseas employment. CBN Asia is the producer of the daily inspirational show The 700 Club Asia.
