Who is Your Pusher?

This is a story about an old rich man who wanted to see her only daughter get married so he can already transfer all his wealth to her before he pass away. But the problem was his unica hija doesn’t have a boyfriend to marry, nor even a single suitor to choose as her lifetime partner.

The worried father thought of a strategy to find the perfect match for his daughter. He planned to hold a competition exclusively for bachelors. He then printed posters and scattered them all across town.

The posters read like this: “Whoever wins the competition will have a chance to choose any of the following prizes: 10 million pesos, 10 hectares of land, or a chance to marry my only daughter.”

On the day of the competition, different kinds of people came. Mayroong matanda, mayroong bata. Mayroong matangkad, may pandak. Mayroong mataba, may payat. Mayroong guwapo, at mayroong mas guwapo!

“Listen!” the wealthy father shouted. “Whoever can cross this pond from end to end can choose any of the prizes I indicated in the posters.”

The noise went louder and all the men got too excited that they all wanted to jump and swim through the pond right away. When they were about to jump, the old man shouted again.

“Wait! I would like you to know that this is a special pond! I put in different kinds of dangerous animals, including piranhas, crocodiles, and snakes!”

There was a sudden deafening silence. The men who were excited at first started to back off. “The prizes are so attractive,” a man told his companion, “pero patay naman tayo!

While everyone surrounding the pond was so quiet, out of nowhere, a man jumped into the pond! Suddenly, the crocodiles, snakes, and piranhas appeared, and the man tried to swim as fast as he could. He swam for his life!

There was a roaring noise all over. Some were cheering for the bravery of the man saying, “Kaya mo ‘yan!” while others shouted teasingly, “Sige, pakamatay ka diyan!

To everyone’s surprise, the swimming man was able to cross the pond and reach the other end! Still in shock, the rich man felt so happy that a fearless man took his challenge.

From the other side of the pond, the rich man shouted, “Kaibigan! Ano ang gusto mo’ng premyo?” The man did not answer because he was still catching his breath from the long swim.

The old man got so excited to know what the man would choose for his reward,  he immediately asked, “Gusto mo ba ng 10 milyong piso?” The man responded, “Hindi po!”

The old man asked, “Gusto mo ba ng 10 hektarya ng lupa?” The man responded, “Hindi po!”

“Oh, great!” the old man told himself. “Finally, I’ve found the perfect man for my only child!” So he asked, “Gusto mo bang mapangasawa ang anak ko?”

To everybody’s surprise, the man answered loud and clear, “Hindi po!”

Feeling insulted and shocked by what he just heard, the old man angrily thought, “You don’t want the money, or the 10-hectare land, and now you are rejecting my offer to marry my daughter?!”

So the old man finally asked, “Ano ang gusto mo?” The man replied, still catching his breath, “Gusto ko lang po’ng malaman kung sino ang nagtulak sa akin!

Before you continue reading this article, I want you to answer the question. Who do you think pushed him?

You might be wondering why do we need to focus on who pushed him. You might ask, why not discuss the reason why the man did not choose one from the rewards that was presented to him?

You know why? Because the one who pushed the man is more important to him! The person who pushed him is responsible for achieving what he thought was not possible! He probably could not believe that he was able to do it. So for the man, maybe a reward is no longer attractive to him, because the one who pushed him enabled him to do more in life, not just at that moment but even in the future!

Here is a man who thought he cannot successfully cross the pond because there were so many obstacles and challenges ahead of him. But he was able to do so! Why?

Because somebody pushed him!

If nobody pushed him, he will never realize that he can accomplish what he did! Sometimes in life, we think there are things that we cannot do, but we were able to achieve it because somebody pushed us to do it.

Remember the time that you thought you cannot swim but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember the time that you thought you cannot finish a book in a week but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember the time you thought you cannot win a competition but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember the time you thought you cannot hit the quota but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember the time that you thought you cannot be an honor student but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember the time you thought you cannot have your own business but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you thought you cannot marry anymore but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you thought you cannot discipline your children but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time that you thought you cannot do the work that your boss asked you to do but you did, because somebody pushed you

Remember that time you thought you cannot restore your marriage but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time that you thought you cannot forgive the one who offended you but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time when you told yourself that you will not work abroad but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself that you will not smoke but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself that you will not drink liquor but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will not be angry but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will not violate traffic rules but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will not be sad but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will not commit adultery but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will not gamble but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will not slander but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will not be in debt but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will not cheat but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will not tell a lie but you did, because somebody pushed you?

Remember that time you told yourself you will go to church but you did not, because somebody pushed you not to?

Remember that time that you told yourself that you will give to help people but you did not, because somebody pushed you not to?

Remember… remember… remember!

One thing for sure, whatever life you have today, positive or negative, is a result of something or someone that pushed you and you allowed them to!

The question is, do you have good pusher or a bad pusher?

Do you have a pusher that unleashes your highest potential towards success, happiness, and significance, or do you have a pusher that limits your potential?

Proverbs 13:20 says, “He who walks with the wise grows with the wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.”

May it also help you realize who pushed you and its effects in your life because you allowed them to!

Did your pusher push you to the right direction or the wrong the direction? Please be careful with who pushes you. I hope your pusher will unleash your highest potential towards success, happiness, and significance. May you allow the Creator of the Universe to push you higher as you meditate on His instructions day and night!

Next week, allow me to push you more to unleash your highest potential for God’s glory!

Great title! Pusher with a positive meaning. Proverbs 13:20 is really true. Let God, Our Creator be our pusher. I will not forget my experience in gift wrapping especially with ribbons. I thought I can’t do it. I gave such reason that I am not a creative person but thank God, my boss pushed me. We are all creative in our own unique ways because God is a creative God as seen in the creation story. Today, I enjoyed gift wrapping and it’s a source of my joy whenever I give gifts that I myself wrapped. That’s my first encounter of how my boss continues to unleash my highest potential. Thank you Ma’am!

This story really meaningful cause it reflects our daily lives how we interact our surroundings and to the people behind or beyond us …the one who push us to do those things we never expected that we can do.
