Missions That Save Lives

In Iligan City, cases of leptospirosis (bacterial infection from contact with animal urine) have spiked in the aftermath of tropical storm Sendong. Yet despite the alarming outbreak and recorded deaths, Marina Rico failed to recognize symptoms of the disease in her ill husband, Desiderio.

The same predicament happened to Eulogia Lladas. Three days after disaster struck, Eulogia was fiery with fever. Soon she was struggling to get out of bed. Days went on and she grew more ill, while her skin and eyes turned yellowish.

Clueless about their worsening conditions, the families of Desiderio and Eulogia made no intervention, until they heard of Operation Blessing’s ongoing outreach.

Continue reading at www.obphil.com to see how OB prevented these two leptospirosis victims from ending up as Sendong's casualties.

In the town of Bubong in Lanao del Sur, just a little over her eighth month of pregnancy, Rohaina Sultan labored for 30 long minutes—but not because her baby is ready for delivery.

Her house was instantaneously flooded by neck-high waters from Seguan and Kamanga Rivers. It was the fateful night of December 17, when tropical storm Sendong struck her sleeping hometown.

Scared for the safety of the growing baby inside her, Rohaina braved and treaded the seemingly angry waters for half an hour to get to safer ground in their barangay hall. Meanwhile, her husband Aminudin ferried their four small children—Johari, Hisam, Hussein, and Aliya—to safety. She said that anyone of them could have drowned during that terrible night.

How will the Sultan family survive their catastrophic ordeal? Continue reading HERE.
