Road to Recovery

MANILA — Last November, we wrote about Shella Mae Marcelo, a nine-year-old girl who suffered massive third-degree burns after a gas lamp accidentally fell on her body.

We met her and her family in Ilagan, Isabela during a medical mission we held for typhoon Juan victims. When she was brought in our clinic, she was immediately rushed to a private provincial hospital and was later on brought to Philippine General Hospital in Manila for a major skin surgery and treatment.

It has been more than a month and we are pleased to inform you that she is now on the road to recovery. Her surgery and therapy were a complete success. She returned home to Isabela, in time to spend the Christmas and New Year with her parents, siblings, and relatives.

Shella Mae’s full treatment and recovery are answered prayers for her mom Marimel. She is very grateful to the people who helped her daughter, and to the volunteers who visited them in the hospital every day. Their presence and encouraging words helped her and Shella Mae get through the whole ordeal. But Marimel learned something more of utmost importance:

“I learned that God is true. It is impossible that He won’t listen to our prayers. He may not answer them right away, but if we wait, He will give us what we’re praying for. He knew we don’t have any money to pay for Shella Mae’s hospital bills or even just for the medicines, but here she is now, treated and feeling much better.”

Thank you, partners, for being a channel of God’s blessings to this family. You imparted to them the greatest Christmas gift of all: hope in Christ. And this is an encouraging gift we want to give you: You helped changed lives by giving hope, one family at a time.
