ORION, Bataan — Christmas, they say, is a time for kids. A time for gifts, food, toys, and all things that spell fun for children. Most importantly, it is a time for kids to spend time with their family and loved ones.
But for some kids, Christmas is a time of hoping—hoping for a loving family they can call their own.
Six-year old Johara knew exactly what she wanted for Christmas. At such a young age, she has been longing for a family where she can be loved and appreciated.
“I cry every night, wishing I have a mom and dad. I envy those kids who have their families with them this Christmas,” she sadly shared.
More than getting a new dress or a new pair of shoes, Johara never stopped praying for a family where she and her younger brother could belong.
“I always pray to God to grant my wish. Still I am very much happy that my brother and I have a place to stay,” she said.
Johara is just one of the children who are being taken care of in King’s Garden Children’s Home in Orion, where Operation Blessing (OB) held its Holiday of Hope and Cheers last December 16.
OB travelled all the way to Bataan to bring smiles to wishful kids of the orphanage. Fifty children eagerly gathered for the program, which included a 30-minute film showing of Christian Broadcasting Network’s (CBN) The Storyteller Café, fun games, and song and dance numbers. OB also hosted games for the kids, giving chocolates as prizes.
To show their appreciation, the kids rendered a Christmas song and dance number with big grins on their faces.
Before the program ended, OB gave out hand puppets as an additional treat for the kids.
“This Christmas, I asked God for a new toy and He gave me one! Thanks to you!” nine-year old Bong joyfully told OB upon receiving the gift.
As for Johara, she learned something that day. “I came to know Jesus and His love for the children. Even if I still don’t have my own family to take care of me, God loves me for sure,” she said confidently.
King’s Garden Director Monica Jarvis expressed her deepest appreciation, seeing the kids blissful with the presents. “You really made the kids happy today. Thank you for visiting us,” she gratefully told OB.
“I also believe the kids got the best gift this Christmas, and that is the love which only God can give. Every child deserves a family, and that is why we are here for them. We teach them about God, a Father who would never ever leave them,” Jarvis said.
The program ended with the kids merrily gathering around the Christmas tree for a picture taking while holding the presents they got. Grateful smiles bid the OB team goodbye as they left the orphanage.
Each year, OB continues to share the true meaning of Christmas through its Holiday of Hope and Cheers program, attesting that, truly, no gift is greater than God’s love.
