The Young People of Guihulngan

GUIHULNGAN CITY, Negros Oriental — Ben Ricablanca, a teacher in Tinayunan Hill Elementary School, was preparing lunch for his family when the 6.9 earthquake hit their barangay. The nerve-wracking roaring of the earth and massive landslides in near Mount Kalatkat can be heard.

Ben and the other teachers quickly maneuvered all the kids towards the school's basketball court. “Dapa! Dapa! (Get down! Get down!)" the teachers shouted as the kids ran towards the open space. One kid spun and tumbled.

For hours the children stayed in the courts waiting for their parents to fetch them. By evening, families set up tents in the school grounds, fearing that another strong earthquake would occur.

How did Ben's students and the many children in Guihulngan will cope with their earth-shattering experience? Read more HERE.

Operation Blessing was just at the right place at the right time. One-year-and-three-month-old Kaizen Panuncillon was burning with high fever when his grandmother Leticia brought him to OB's medical mission in Barangay Planas last February 27. While falling in line for their turn to register, baby Kaizen threw fits.

The OB medical team immediately attended to Kaizen. His temperature had shoot up to 40 degrees Celsius. Grandmother Leticia was turning more panicky by the minute. OB rushed Kaizen to the Villegas Memorial Hospital to stabilize his condition. Jacklyn, Kaizen’s tearful mom, who went to the hospital in haste, had to be appeased.

What will be the poor baby's fate in the hands of Operation Blessing? Continue reading at www.obphil.com.

Brothers Dexter, 14, and Darwin Toting, 12, have memories that are tearing their young hearts every day since the fateful day of the earthquake. They lost the most important people in their lives: their Mama Melchora and Papa Danny, in a landslide.

Operation Blessing met the two brothers during a disaster relief mission in Planas. The boys barely talked. Dexter would stare ahead as he was asked, then immediately drop his eyes when prompted for an answer. Darwin would look at his older brother then look downwards as well. Their silence revealed the turmoil most likely have bottled up inside.
