Privilege, Purpose, Passion

by Christine Darg, missionary to Israel and the Middle East
(second of three parts)

I want to emphasize three points that all start with the letter P: privilege, purpose, passion.

Overseas Filipinos are privileged because the Lord has chosen you. Many are called, but few are chosen. You are ambassadors of the Most High God. And God has made a way for you, where many other people don’t have a way, to get into the homes and the hearts and the lives of these people who are behind the iron gates of Islam. He has privileged you above millions and millions of people on this earth to be His ambassadors.

I want you to somehow grasp that you’re not just going forth to work, but you are going forth as a privileged bearer of glad tidings. You are privileged bearers of the Good News. You are going on an adventure. Some people just go to work, but you are going on an adventure, a travel, a journey for the Lord. He has chosen you.

In Jeremiah 29: 11-13, “For I know the thoughts, says the Lord, that I have towards you, thoughts of peace and not evil…” He’s saying don’t be afraid. He is sending you out in His power “to give you an expected end.”

“And then you will call upon me and pray, and I will listen. You shall seek me and find me. You will search for me with all your heart.” And I’m here to tell you that if you’re ever in trouble or in need of help, all you have to do is cry out to God, and He will open your eyes to see He has millions of angels to come to your rescue, because You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, going out to bring in, I believe, the last Great Harvest. You are harvesters, and you are privileged.

In Psalm 139, “I saw your substance when you were formed in your mother’s womb… How precious were your thoughts to me.” God is thinking of you all day long. He’s protecting you. He is your shield and your exceeding great reward as you go forth as Abraham. He will guide you step by step. He will send His angelic protection, and the Holy Spirit is in you and comes alongside of you, to keep you and to comfort you and to be your friend that’s closer than a brother when you have to give up your family.

And, of course, you all know what the Gospel promised. When Peter told Jesus, “We’ve left everything for You, Lord,” He said, I tell you a promise right now, everyone who has left lands, houses, mother, father, sister, brother, children, I tell you, that person will receive one-hundred-fold lands, properties, mothers, fathers, houses, children—with persecutions. But he’s going to get in this lifetime, He said, all of those possessions and family, and then eternal life, because you go for my sake, He said, and the Gospel (Mark 10:29-30). So that is your purpose.

And then the last point of the three things is passion. I often say, don’t go to a people if you don’t love them, because if you don’t love them, you’re not going to be effective missionaries. But it’s the love that captures and melts the heart. And so if you’re going and if you don’t really feel love for the people where you’re going, you have to ask the Lord to give you that love. You’re going to ask the Lord to give you that passion.
