“Cast your bread on the waters, for you shall find it after many days. Give a share to seven, and also to eight, for you know not what evil shall be on the earth.” (Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 MKJV)
“Sometimes you can become rich by being generous or poor by being greedy. Generosity will be rewarded: Give a cup of water, and you will receive a cup of water in return.” (Proverbs 11:24-25)
It all started when she was moved by God to financially help a Bible school student shortly after receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior. Little did she know her life was about to change as she became a molded vessel in the loving hands of our gracious Father.
Cynthia Tizon, a mom and entrepreneur, warmed up all the more to the idea of being a missionary care volunteer and supporter when a friend agreed to start Asian Center for Missions (ACM) in Pampanga in the 1990s.
Her ordinary pleasure trips to Southeast Asia began taking new meaning as God gave her a new purpose. With her missionary friends and connections growing, she would invite them to her home and farm as she picks them up from Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark.
Her kind gesture allows missionaries a much-needed respite from the field. The two days someone would house them and feed them make a lot of difference. This enables our missionaries to just breathe before embarking on another battle—the home front.
While at Cynthia’s home, her missionary friends get a treat—a visit to her farm. She grows organic fruits and vegetables at Charisma Farm in Magalang, Pampanga.
To date, she has visited Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. The last trip she did was with her sister. She has also graced homes and ministries of ACM-trained missionaries in these countries. She quips that it takes just a little to make these foot soldiers of the Lord happy: local cheese, corned beef, tuyo, and Boy Bawang. Making her smile with wonder is how with these gifts, it seems one has already brought Christmas to them.
One of the blessings of visiting missionaries is being exposed to their ministries. This has continuously grown Cynthia’s burden for cross-cultural missions. She cannot help but be moved by their tears and struggles as they embrace a new language, a new people, and new way of life.
She would listen as they unload their thoughts, hurts, and trials. She says this gives her a deeper appreciation for unreached people groups as she prays for them and for the lives of new believers. She would remind her missionary friends: “I’m here not just for the ministry but for you. I want to know how you’re really doing.”
She adds, “Knowing missionaries, they want to show you what God has been doing in their ministries. I just want my missionary friends to know they are important and God has sent me to minister to them.”
Passion such as Cynthia’s overflows and she can’t help but share it with her friends and encourage them to do the same. “You can see their reaction, and little by little their eyes are being opened to missions,” she says. She encourages them to just listen to missionaries as this is a form of debriefing.
“Missionaries struggle a lot. It is very easy for them to think that no one cares. I see myself as a carer for returning missionaries. I really would like to share my small house and make them comfortable. Maybe some time we can have a real facility for them to stay.”
