He is one of Asian Center for Missions’ (ACM) many unsung heroes—giving his time and expertise without pay to help further the organization’s Global Bayanihan agenda.
Pastor James Quisquirin is a member of the Global Bayanihan council of ACM National Capital Region, headed by its regional manager Pastor Romy Fernandez.
“I help screen applicants of ACM’s missionary training program (MTP) and get to mentor some of the students as well,” he says.
Being the head of the missions division of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches of the Philippines (CAMACOP), Pastor James’ heart is to mobilize individuals to be involved in fulfilling the Great Commission.
“Missions is the heart of God,” he asserts. “Unfortunately, it’s sometimes treated as the least important ministry in the church, occupying a small chunk of the church’s evangelism department.”
Through conducting Kairos courses for his denomination, Pastor James is helping transform many of its participants’ understanding of missions. Potential missionaries are then referred for training at ACM.
“Our denomination envisions transformed communities with missions-driven Christian congregations here and abroad for the glory of God,” he shares.
“Given that ‘Missionary’ is our ‘middle name,’ we are focused on proclaiming the good message of the Gospel in places where many have not heard of it.”
Pastor James’ missions call extends back to his sophomore days in college. In one of his classes, he watched a film featuring the story of a doctor who served among boat dwellers in China. He was deeply moved by the movie that he committed himself to missions work.
Soon after graduating from Bible school, he served as a church planter in Cagayan Valley for nine years, and he was able to plant three other churches in Tuguegarao before going to Capital City Alliance to head its church planting ministry. Later, he became the senior pastor of his church in Quezon City and now the Executive Vice-President for Missions of CAMACOP.
“I’m still not able to do remote cross-cultural work abroad, but someday, who knows, I may become a missionary—maybe not in China, but whatever door opens, as I follow my calling.”
