Phyu is 16 years old and full of dreams. She desires to finish her studies and become a doctor someday. She is intelligent and a very diligent girl.
She wants her dreams to come true, even if life is so hard for her, her grandmother, and the rest of their family. She never stops dreaming and striving more each passing day.
Phyu experienced a lot of things. Her mother left her when she was still very young. She has never seen her again until last December, when, for the first time, she and her mother met face to face. Her father seems out of the picture, too.
She stays with her grandmother, who takes care of her as well as her aunt’s babies. When she was in third grade, her aunt tried to stop her schooling. Good thing that we intervened.
Recently her grandmother told her that as soon as the school year ends, she will be sent to Bangkok to work. Phyu approached us and told us her problem with groaning and tears, asking for our help. For three days she kept on crying and praying, anxious of her future. We comforted her and we prayed together, asking the Lord’s favor and guidance.
We decided to talk to Phyu’s grandmother and family and ask if she can continue to study with us, but our efforts seemed in vain. Their decision to send her to the big city to work was final. But we never stopped. Again, we came to the throne of God and petition for Phyu’s situation. We even sent emails to people and our partners, asking for prayers and advice on what to do.
After two days Phyu went to her grandmother and personally talked to her again. Finally, Phyu’s grandmother and other family members allowed her to stay with us to continue her studies. God touched their hearts because we cried out for help. To God be the glory! Indeed, nothing is impossible to Him!
Phyu still lives in our shelter for migrant girls who are at risk for child prostitution and child labor. We provide them with food, protection, good education, guidance, love, and the saving knowledge that Jesus Christ is the Messiah.
