Giving and Serving Flerida Reyes believes that partnership with CBN Asia goes beyond her monthly donations.
She is a familiar face on the set of The 700 Club Asia as a volunteer telephone counselor during live telethons and webcasts. A psychology graduate, Flerida offers guidance and prayers to callers of the show who are beset by problems.
Last year she also volunteered to counsel and give hope to flood victims during the height of Operation Blessing’s Ondoy relief missions.
“It really feels good to serve, and see the expressions in their faces,” she shares. “I told these people that every one of us goes through a storm, but all shall come to pass if we stay close to God.”
Flerida is able to encourage the downhearted since she is no stranger to life’s storms. On a couple of occasions she saw her car sales business slump to the brink of bankruptcy. Debts were high and properties were lost—including several houses, a Makati condo, and a Tagaytay lot.
These were “dark and trying times,” she recalls, so like Job of the Old Testament she sought God. And the Lord’s answer came one evening while Flerida was watching The 700 Club Asia. That night, hosts Peter Kairuz and Coney Reyes were praying for people struggling with their finances.
“It’s as if they were talking to me,” she recalls. “So I called the show, I prayed along with a counselor, and instantly I felt hopeful and relieved.”
Flerida held on to God’s promise in Malachi 3:10: “Test me in this and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” It was this challenge that prompted her to support CBN Asia financially and entrust her wealth to God, the true Source of riches.
In a few years’ time, Flerida’s business is up and running once more. She acquired a showroom for her cars, lots in first-class subdivisions, and townhouses for her children. Her debts from credit cards, amortizations, and bank loans were all paid off.
“God is an awesome God! Truly, whatever we have is not ours. Everything comes from the Lord,” she says.
Today Flerida is not content with simply sending money to the CBN Asia Family of Ministries. She positions herself in what she calls a “battlefield,” where she can witness, listen to, and touch the lives of Filipinos transformed by her partnership. Because of her selfless service, she saw the very heart of CBN Asia, as well as her own heart expand.
“I volunteer because I know God calls us to invest our treasures, time, and talent in His Kingdom,” she says. “I want to involve because I know the Lord is taking me to bigger steps of faith.”
