Celebrate the Artist in You! – February is the National Arts Month

celebrate the artist in you

Art did not come to life when Da Vinci was born, nor did it become popular when Van Gough painted Starry Night. The bible is solid evidence that art has been present even before time and that God is the first and greatest artist ever.

He showcased His creative skills when He superbly created earth and everything in it (Genesis 1). This proves that all things were created through art, including you and me, so we must learn how to appreciate and improve it.

Apart from this, are you also aware that you are an artist by nature? A famous painter, Pablo Picasso, further emphasized this by saying, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”

If you’re a bit cynical that art is for everybody, I’m sure Mr. Picasso, painter of the $179.4 million worth – The Women of Algiers, is telling the truth.

Here’s a trivia.

Aside from being the love month, did you know that February is also our National Arts Month?

This is our moment to celebrate art as natural born artists, we just need to find it within ourselves to be able to embrace this truth.

It’s unfortunate however, that the common notion surrounding art today is this – If you can’t draw, paint, sculpt or take nice pictures, then it is not for you.

This is so untrue.

Art is so vast that you can’t box it.

Philosophy Now, a magazine of ideas beautifully explained art in their article, What is Art? and/or What is Beauty? – “It is something we do, a verb. It’s an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires, but it is even more personal than that: it’s about sharing the way we experience the world, which for many is an extension of personality.”

If you love to cook, then that’s your art. If you love math and solving equations makes you happy, then that’s your art. To put it plainly, art is what you love to do the most, and the way you confidently express yourself to the world.

Art is a major part of us. In the same way God, its Creator, is a big part of our lives. Let’s enjoy developing the things we love the most, and may we continually use this as our creative expression of love for Him.
