Abused and Angered but Changed by God | Alexces Sumalague Story

The world has been unfair to him.

His mother was nowhere to be found. His father was abusive. The grandmother who took care of him taught him to use his fists to fight and defend himself.

Wounded and defensive, Alexces grew up nurturing hate instead of love in his heart.

He would fight everyone who would try to hurt him. He swore he’d kill his father when he gets the chance. He wished his mother dead.

Deprived of love and attention, Alexces tried to fill the emptiness by spending time with peers and drinking alcohol.

Until his grandmother died.

Alexces thought he might as well take his own life but God had a different plan.

When his mother tried to reconcile with him, Alexces found longing beneath the layers of hate he kept in his heart. This longing and love paved way for him to know Jesus Christ through his mother.

Though there was a desire to change, Alexces battled with believing a God loved him because of his past. In his desperation, he prayed for God to intervene.

When he opened the Bible, Alexces was led to Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Alexces was filled with the understanding that though the world may have been unfair to him, there is a God who loved him. When he decided to surrender his life to God, he found the love that healed his pains of the past.

Not only did God uproot anger in his heart, he was also miraculously healed from a heart attack.
