Honoring the Unsung Heroes – CBN Asia Awards the “Huwarang OFW 2017”

SAN MATEO, RIZAL – CBN Asia, in partnership with Kabalikat ng Migranteng Pilipino, Inc. (KAMPI) and I-Remit, once again honored the unsung heroes by awarding the Huwarang OFW 2017 at Ciudad Christia Resort on September 23.

The event aimed to recognize the hardships and sacrifices of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in providing for their family and to celebrate their victories in overcoming their challenges as they make an impact not only to their family but also to their community.

“We want to encourage, inspire, and reach out to more OFWs through the lives of our nominees,” says I-Remit Chairman and CEO Bansan Choa, expressing the company’s commitment to continue its support to Huwarang OFW, which is now on its 3rd year.

The Huwarang OFW 2017 awarding ceremony was graced by the 30 nominees or their representatives, with their friends and families, in its categories – Family, Individual, and Missionary.

Huwarang OFW stories were featured on The 700 Club Asia from May 29 to August 21. Every story went through crucial deliberation among the judges who had to declare the winners per category. Rewards were 1st and 2nd runner ups and the Huwarang OFW for the category.

The public was also invited to vote online for their Huwarang OFW  through The 700 Club Asia Facebook page and the CBN Asia web site, which brought about the People’s Choice Awards.

Keynote speaker ACTS OFW Party List Representative Hon. Aniceto “John” Bertiz III shared his advocacy to teach financial literacy to OFWs, emphasizing on honoring God through their income.

Practical tips on how to handle the OFW’s income were given by I-Remit Global Marketing Assistant Vice President Maria Cristina Castillejo in her speech, “Pera, Pera, Paano Kinita?” (“Money, Money, How were you Earned?”)

CBN Asia President and CEO Peter Kairuz asserted that OFWs are not just workers but they are also witnesses of God to the world.

“We believe that Huwarang OFW Awards is just a start. We are now initializing a program that we call Huwarang OFW Gives Back, which we hope could rally support from all our past winners and nominees and our partners in the ministry. We want to have a collaborative effort to help our OFWs,” said Huwarang OFW Founder and CBN Asia Director of News and Production Ms. Becky Cabral

All the winners received plaques as well as in-kind and cash prizes.
