Renato Caraan | Huwarang OFW 2017 Missionary Nominee

A near-death experience in an ambush attack while he was working as a driver in a mining company opened Rene Caraan’s eyes to decide to turn back from womanizing and alcoholism. After fully surrendering his life to God, he decided to work abroad.

While working to be able to provide for his family’s needs, Rene developed a deeper relationship with God in the Middle East and considered this as his greatest achievement. He got arrested for his passion in spreading God’s Word. However, his faith did not waver despite the imprisonment.

By God’s grace, Rene was acquitted and released from prison. He continued in his mission to spread the good news. The trials he went through became instrumental in strengthening his faith. When he came back to the Philippines, Rene became a pastor.

Despite the loneliness, homesickness, and danger it brought his life, Rene sought to fulfill the great commission as mandated by God. That is, as we read in Matthew 28: 18-20, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.”
