‘God is Good!’

RODRIGUEZ, Rizal — “God is good!” exclaimed 24-year-old mother Nice Sarmiento, who lives in the foothills of the Sierra Madre. After months of earnest praying, the Lord finally granted her request.

“I kept asking God if He could restore my sari-sari store,” she shared. And during one rainy morning in June, her request was granted.

Test of Faith

For more than a year, Nice and her family enjoyed the extra income flowing from her sari-sari store. While her husband only earns at most 1,000 pesos a week working irregular jobs, her store generates the same amount in a single day.

When asked if their combined earnings are enough to sustain the family, Nice said, “The Lord has never forsaken us. Our store was earning really well, even though it’s small and there are other stores around us.”

However, the store’s earning streak was disrupted when Nice experienced a heavy and painful bleeding. “I didn’t know I was pregnant then,” she said. “I had a miscarriage.”

She was hospitalized, and soon her store’s capital was used to pay for her medications. The situation left her with no choice but to close down her store.

Faith Strengthened

Situations and circumstances planted seeds of doubt in Nice’s mind, but her continuous prayer slowly strengthened her faith.

“I felt deep in my heart that God will grant my prayer,” she shared. “I asked God if He could send someone to help me restore my store. And true enough, God sent Operation Blessing to bless Nice and her family.

Under Operation Blessing’s livelihood assistance, a beneficiary enters into a return of investment agreement. She decides how and when she would pay back for the business capital loaned by Operation Blessing—free of interest. This return of investment would fund another small business for a potential beneficiary.

Nice’s family was one of those who benefited from Operation Blessing’s livelihood assistance. This enabled her to buy various products to sell, bringing life back to her once empty and abandoned store.

Her son Gian, who is now in first grade, was also an Operation Blessing beneficiary. Under the care of the Bless-a-Child project, Gian was served with daily nutritious meals, availed of free monthly medical checkups, and enrolled in a preschool for free.

“I thank God for always being there for us, for providing our family with everything we need,” Nice tearfully said. “God is good!” | by Gerika Soria, Operation Blessing
